Maldives Holiday Prize

UK divers with a flair for underwater photography could find themselves swapping their local waters for a stint in the seas of the Maldives should they come out on top of a picture competition taking place in the South of England this summer.

Participants in the British Splash-In Championship 2010, which is set to take place on July 3 at Mount Batten in Plymouth, England, stand a chance of winning a seven day stay on a Maldivian Liveaboard boat if their photos are selected by judges as being the best in show.

The annual competition is organised by the British Society of Underwater Photographers (BSoUP) to allow members and non-members alike to display their attempts at capturing the most striking images of the local waters on the actual day of the championship.
As part of this year’s festivities, travel group Maldives Scuba Tours is set to act as a major sponsor by providing a special top prize of a week’s full-board accommodation on the Sea Queen or Sea Spirit boats.

A spokesperson for Maldives Scuba Tours tells Maldives Traveller that the company decided to sponsor the event as both a reflection of the growing number of British travellers with a passion for capturing underwater life on film, as well as the overall prestige of the competition itself.
Event organiser, BSoUP, says the event will welcome divers of all levels of experience to take part in the competition, with four trophies and eleven different accolades up for grabs. Prizes will be awarded in numerous categories including the Best Close-Up, Best Wide-Angle and Best Animal Portrait shots. Additional prizes will also be given for pictures deemed to capture the most humorous natural occurrences under the water.

The top prize of a Maldives holiday, which does not include transportation to and from the country, will be fought for in the Close-Up, Wide-Angle and Animal Portrait categories, according to organisers.

More information and details of entry can be found on the BSoUP website.
